The youth meet regularly for activities inside and
outside of the church. Any given Sunday for instance, might find students
in grades 7-12 gathered as one and participating in preparation for the Bible
Bowl.
The Bible Bowl is an annual contest, testing the knowledge of the
contestants based on a particular book or books of the Bible within
the
Northeastern Ohio Synod of the ELCA.
Every
three years, high school age youth from ELCA congregations
across the nation
come together for community activities, learning opportunities, servant events
and worship. The 2006 ELCA Youth Gathering was held in San Antonio, Texas
this past July with nine
of our youth attending. Those who attended received support
from
members of the community and their church family
through numerous fund raising
events.
Throughout the year, activities involving all age youth and families are held. These include gathering at Maize Valley Farm for a hayride and bonfire, ice skating at Center Ice, skiiing and snowboarding at Boston Mills, picnics, lock-ins here at Advent, building a shed for Habitat for Humanity, doing yard work or outside chores for members in need, attending an Akron Aeros game, camping, and many more!
These activities all serve
not only as opportunities for fun and fellowship,
but also an opportunity to help
our youth live out Advent's mission;
Led by the Spirit; Living the Word.
