The altar flowers today are given to the glory of God by Kathy Bell in honor of Hayden's birthday.

Would you be willing to provide a covered dish or volunteer your time to help out at the bereavement meal following Eleanor Neff's funeral?  The meal will be on Monday, February 8th at 11:30 am and sign-up sheets are located in the narthex. Thank you for the many ways in which you serve.

The Decorating Committee will meet tomorrow February 8th at 6:30 p.m.

The next youth group for everyone in grades 3-6 is this Wednesday, February 10th from 7-8pm.  We will meet in the fellowship hall for an hour of fun and games.  There is no cost for this activity!  Come and join us…you will LOVE what we have planned for you this month!

Women’s Bible Study:  Mark your calendars for our next Women’s Bible Study, scheduled for this Tuesday, February 9th @ 7 pm.  We will meet in the library, and light snacks will be provided.  All are invited and welcome to attend

Book Club:  Our next book club meeting is this Wednesday, February 10th @ 7 pm.  We will be discussing The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.  We will meet in the library and light snacks will be provided.  Please sign up in the narthex if you plan to attend. 

Do you like to cook?  Bake?  If so, then please sign up for Advent’s “meals” ministry, which will provide meals to members of our Advent family who are in need.  This ministry will exist to serve those who have experienced an extended hospitalization from injury or illness and those with new babies.   Please sign up in the narthex if you are willing to be placed on the list of those willing to cook for this ministry.

Shrove Tuesday - Mark your calendars for a pancake and sausage supper on February 16th!  The menu includes plain, blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes, applesauce and sausage.  We will serve from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. and a free-will offering will be taken.   Many hands are needed to prepare, cook, set-up and clean-up.  If you are able to help, please sign- up on the sheet in the narthex. 

Mark your calendars for February 21st as we welcome Bishop Elizabeth Eaton to our Sunday morning worship service.  There will be one combined service at 10:00 a.m. 

New Adult Sunday School Class from 11:00-11:45 am:  Join us for a 10 week course entitled, “Twelve Ordinary Men”, where we will be studying the disciples.  The course will begin on Sunday, February 28th and will conclude on May 2nd (No class on Easter Sunday).  Please sign up in the narthex if you would like to take part in this class. 

Softball league is starting soon…  Would you like to play on Advent’s Softball team?  If so, a brief informational meeting will be held on Sunday, February 28th @ 10:45 am in fellowship hall.  Please sign up in the narthex if you plan to attend the meeting.

Join us for a 6-week Lenten Study: 24 Hours that Changed the World by Adam Hamilton.  Each chapter explores Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the sessions included are:

Wednesday, Feb 17th - The Last Supper
Wednesday, Feb 24th - The Garden of Gethsemane & Condemned by the Righteous
Wednesday, March 3rd- Jesus, Barabbas & Pilate
Wednesday, March 10th- The Torture and Humiliation of the King
Wednesday, March 17th- The Crucifixion
Wednesday, March 24th- Christ the Victor
All of the sessions will be offered at 10:30 am or 7 pm.

Akron Children's Hospital Donation! Church youth member Kyle Scott is doing a project for National Honors Society and is asking for donations from the congregation. The list includes Matchbox cars, Nerf toys, Winter hats and mittens, board games, lined notebooks, playing cards, Uno cards, books for teens, clothing (infant to adult sizes), stuffed animals, coloring/activity books, crayons (non-toxic), markers, colored pencils, balls (various sizes), bubbles (small bottles) and posters. All items must be NEW. You can turn items in to the box located in the narthex. If you have any questions please call Kyle Scott at (330) 877-1324

CALLING ALL COOKS!  The Outreach Committee will be hosting the third annual Advent Lutheran Church SOUP COOK-OFF on Sunday March 14th after the 11:00 a.m. service.  This will be a fun time for all cooks to show off their culinary expertise.  There will be a sign up sheet on the desk in the narthex for those interested in participating.  There will be a first place prize for the lucky winner.  Bowl and sample sizes will be sold.  All proceeds will go to support Outreach ministries.  Please come and join in the fun.

Please be sure to stop by the table in the narthex and pick up you 2010 offering envelopes.  The Stewardship Committee would love to see every box picked up as they are very costly to mail!  Thank you. 

GOOD FRIDAY:  Join us for an inspirational Good Friday “Reverse Advent” worship service led by the High School youth.  This dramatic service promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who participate.  The service begins at 7 p.m. on April 2nd
